Wordle Solver
Enter each guess you have played, tap its tiles to match the colours the game showed, and press Search to see the five-letter words that still fit, best first.
How to use the Wordle Solver
This tool narrows a Wordle puzzle down from the guesses you have already played. You give it each guess and the colours the game showed, and it lists the five-letter words that would have produced exactly those colours.
- Type your first guess into the first row. The letters appear on the tiles as you type, and a row counts only when it has five letters.
- Tap each tile until its colour matches what the game showed. A tile starts grey, and each tap moves it to yellow, then green, then back to grey.
- Add the rest of your guesses, one per row. The page has room for six guesses, and empty rows are ignored.
- Press Search to see the words that still fit. Clear guesses empties every row when you start a new puzzle.
Tips for better results
- Colour every tile before you search. A tile left grey tells the tool that the letter is not in the answer, or that no further copy of it is.
- Take care with repeated letters. If a letter appears twice in a guess and the game coloured only one copy yellow or green, set the other copy grey.
- Your guess does not have to be a word from the list. The tool reads letters and colours and never looks the guess up, so an unusual guess still narrows the search.
- Search again after each new guess. Every extra row can only remove words, never add them.
- Use the order as a starting point only. It ranks the words and does not predict which one is the answer.
Questions and answers
What do the colours mean?
Green means the letter is in the answer in that exact place. Yellow means the letter is in the answer but in another place. Grey means the answer holds no more copies of that letter than the green and yellow tiles already account for.
Which words does it search?
The ENABLE word list holds words of 2 to 15 letters, and this tool searches the 8,636 five-letter words in it. That is broader than the official answer list, so some suggestions may not be words the game would choose. The list also lacks some recent words, and it is not the official list of any game.
How are the words ranked?
For each word, the tool counts how many of the remaining words share each of its distinct letters and adds the counts, so a repeated letter counts once. Higher totals come first and ties are listed from A to Z. The rank counts letters only.
How many words are shown, and are they scored?
The first 100 are shown, and Show more adds 100 each time; the status line says how many more fit. Wordle results carry no score, so the Scrabble letter values used by the other word tools play no part here.
Where does it run, and can I share a search?
The search runs in your browser. The word list is downloaded once, on your first search. A search you share carries your guesses and colours in the link's address, and opening that link sends that address to the site's host like any other page request.
